In January, I took a series of trips to three different workshops, and brought home the following three souvenirs.
Aussois, France: Piste Noire Bière Amère (bitter), Brasserie de Cimes
Zinal, Switzerland: Rousse, Sierrvoise
Gyöngyöstarján, Hungary: Szürkebarát Olaszrizling, Mátra
In the actual seminars, one of the more educational presentations was by a Hungarian, but not in Hungary; Gábor Tardos gave a series of 4 expositional lectures explaining the an elegant recent result. Specifically, it was about his joint work with Robin Moser, their efficient algorithmic proof of the Lovász Local Lemma, and related problems in constraint satisfaction.
In the bottles: although France does not have a reputation as a beer producer, I recommend that you take the Piste Noire if you get a chance!
